Preparation of KMnO₄ for chloride ion:

Take the 1.5 g of KMnO₄ and dissolve in 50 ml of distilled water in a volumetric flask and mix it properly.
Heat this mixture and add 6 ml of 95 % ethanol.
After cooling add 60 ml distilled water and filter the mixture.
2KMnO₄ + 2C₂H₅OH → 2MnO₂ + 3CH₃CHO + 2KOH + 2H₂O
