Cotton is harvested when the pods mature. Then, the cotton

fibre is taken out, pods and seeds separated from it. The cotton thus obtained

is shipped to spinning mills, where yarn is made. The yarns are then bleached

with chemicals and dyed with dyes or pigments. Thereafter, the yarn is sent to textile

mills for being woven into fabric. If the yarn had not been bleached and dyed

at the spinning mill, an off-white fabric is obtained; this is called grey fabric

and it is now bleached and dyed. Once the fabric is woven, it is shipped to

distributors or wholesalers, who in turn sell it to retailers. The retailers

then sell it to customers like us. We buy cloth as per our requirement and get

it stitched by a tailor. Eventually, the shirt is collected from the tailor and

finds its way into our wardrobe.

In the case of readymade shirts, the function of the tailor

is eliminated. The fabric at the textile mill is sent to an in-house garment

manufacturing unit or to an unit outside for making shirts, which when done are

shipped to shops or accredited showrooms for sale to customers like us.
