Explanation:

if your solution is concentrated aqueous NaCl than you will get Cl2 and O2 because there will be race between H2 and Na to attach with cathod but because of potential deffrence H2 will attached for same reason Cl2 will attach with anode instead of O2

But if your solution is dilute your product will be H2 and O2.

Explanation:

  • when electricity is passed through a aqueous solution of NaCl ,which is also called brine,it decomposes to give NaOH  , Cl2  , H2 .
  • This is also called chlor-alkali process because in the products formed chlor is for chlorine and alkali is for sodium hydroxide.
  • During this electrosis,chlorine is given off at anode and hydrogen at cathode.

2Nacl + 2H2O → 2NaOH + Cl2 + H2
