 Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) is a representative elected by the voters of anelectoral district (constituency) to thelegislature of the State government in theIndian system of government. Each state has between seven and nine MLAs for everyMember of Parliament (MP) that it has in theLok Sabha, the lower house of India'sbicameral parliament. There are also members in two unicameral legislatures inUnion Territories: the Delhi Legislative Assembly and Puducherry Legislative Assembly.
