Baking soda is prepared by solvay process or ammonia soda process.
In this process the brine ( solution of sand and water) is saturated with ammonia and allowed to react with carbon dioxide. The reaction is:
Nacl + h20 + NH4 + CO2 -- NAHCO3 + H20.
