The Judiciary gives justice and interpretes the constitution. It checks for the proper functioning of the Union Executive and Legislature.

The Supreme Court consists of the Chief Justice of India and not more than 30 other judges. Supreme Court judges are elected by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice of India and four senior most judges.

The High Court consists of Chief Justice. There is no limit for the number of judges of a High Court. The High Court Judges are appointed by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the Governor of the concerned state.
