Answer:

Slurry fed into digestor - decomposition of biomass -Production of gases to be used as fuel.

Slurry fed into digestor - In a mixing tank, slurry of animal dung and other waste materials is prepared by mixing it with equal amount of water.

Decomposition of biomass - The slurry so prepared is passed on to a digester tank where it is decomposed in about 50-60 days by anaerobic bacteria to produce biogas.

Production of gases to be used as fuel - Biogas is mainly composed of methane (upto 75%), CO2 (25%) and traces of other gases such as nitrogen and hydrogen.

In a bio gas plant the slurry is fist dumped into a mixing tank.

This mixing tank slides down the slurry into the main tank or digesterwhich is in the shape of a dome.

  • Methane,
  • Hydrogen sulphide and
  • Carbon dioxide

are the prominant gases that are released.
