Lok adalat


This system is based on gandhian principles. In ancient times the disputes were used to be referred to "panchayat" which were established at village level.


Aims and function......


In order to provide quick, affordable and speedy justice to be poor and downtrodden, the system of lok adalat was provided in 1985.it wasto give relief to the litigants, who wanted to get justice.



Public interest litigation (PIL)


The public interest litigation is an indian non governmental organization that conducts litigation on matters of public interest. It means litigation for the protection of public interest. It is an litigation introduced in a court of law. It was introduced in 1979.


Aims of PIL......


It is not necessary that the person who is a victim should personally approach the court such caese may occur. When the victim does not have necessary resources to start litigation. It can be done though a letter or telegram. It is inexpensive legal remedy because there is a nominal fee.

Public interest litigation are passed in favour of citizens in the form of legal actions initiated by tribunals. PIL also accepts the cases which consider general public as whole rather than only petitioners. It also acts as greatest tools for protection of human rights.

It act as forum which solve the pending cases of panchayats and look after the pre public litigations which are awaiting to get settled. Lok Adalats only in the year of 1987 achieved the status of Stauratory body.
