Number is divisible by 3 if the sum of digits is multiple of 3.

 

Sum of digits = 6 + 7 + 2 + 4 = 19

 

Smallest digit that we can add to the sum to make it multiple of 3 is 2.

Doing so, we get sum of digits = 19 + 2 = 21 which is the multiple of 3.

 

Greatest digit that we can add to the sum to make it multiple of 3 is 8.

Doing so, we get sum of digits = 19 + 8 = 27 which is the multiple of 3.

 

(b) 4765 __ 2

 

Number is divisible by 3 if the sum of digits is multiple of 3.

 

Sum of digits = 4 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 2 = 24

 

Smallest digit that we can add to the sum to make it multiple of 3 is 0.

Doing so, we get sum of digits = 24 + 0 = 24 which is the multiple of 3.

 

Greatest digit that we can add to the sum to make it multiple of 3 is 9.

Doing so, we get sum of digits = 24 + 9 = 33  which is the multiple of 3.
