Put the mouse pointer over the bottom right-hand corner of the cell until it's a black plus sign. Click and hold the left mouse button, and drag the plus sign over the cells you want to fill. And the series is filled in for you automatically using the AutoFill feature.

Begin a new spreadsheet. Add initial data that is needed.

Select the cell that you wish to AutoFill. Move the cursor to the bottom right corner of the cell. It will turn into a solid cross. This is called the Fill Handle.

Notice how Excel fills the series of months for you automatically. Drag the cursor across the cells to as many as you need. If you exceed the number of cells needed, data will be repeated.

You can easily erase this data by dragging the cells back to the end.
