Women's empowerment (or female empowerment) is the process of empowering women. It may be defined in several ways, including accepting women's viewpoints or making an effort to seek them, raising the status of women through education, awareness, literacy, and training.
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.

There has been progress over the last decades:

1) Many international commitments support women’s economic empowerment, including the Beijing Platform for Action, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and a series of International Labour Organization conventions on gender equality.

2) women especially from scheduled castes and tribes are given reserved seats in parliaments, schools,etc

3) women are now allowed to express their views and their thoughts

4) To empower women many laws have been introduced such as : Dowry Prohibition,Immoral Traffic (Prevention);Commission of Sati ,etc
