This is my favourite film, and it was a big part of the inspiration behind The Sleeper. A married man and a married woman meet at a station and fall in love. Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard portray the couple as good people, simply swept up in a romance beyond their control. While the dialogue is clipped and twee, the trains rushing dramatically through tunnels, and the Rachmaninov soundtrack, leave the viewer in no doubt as to the wild passion that is boiling beneath.
