Chlamydomonas is a microscopic organism belonging to green algae (posses chlorophyll A,B)

-It is eukaryotic, uni cellular, biflagellate, pear shaped which resides in fresh water as well as marine water.

-Cell wall madeup of glycoprotein.

-Internally, it has a single nucleus and two contractile vacoule for osmoregulation and excretion.

-Cup shaped chloroplasts are found with red eye spots.

--Asexual reproduction takes place by Zoospores, aplanospores,hypnospores and palmella stage.

-In Palmella stage, a large number of naked cells devoid of flagella lie inside a mass of mucilage. This stage develops in response to toxic chemicals/ unfavorable conditions.

-Sexual reproduction takes place by isogamy, Hologamy(fusion of young cells) anisogamy, oogamy.

-Zygotic meiosis takes place. So, life-cycle is haplontic.

-Chlamydomonas nivalis is responsible for red snow.
