In its edible form of table salt, it is commonly used as a condiment and food preservative. Large quantities of sodium chloride are used in many industrial processes, and it is a major source of sodium and chlorine compounds used as feedstocks for further chemical syntheses.

COMMON SALT :

Evaporation means changing the state of matter from liquid to gaseous state . In seas and oceans , salt is generally dissolved in water. To get salt from water , we may use evaporation technique which helps to separate salt and after separating the salt , the rocky salt is termed as common salt and it's formula is NACL.

USES OF COMMON SALT :

Common salt is the raw material for making a large number of industrial chemicals

like sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, hydrochloric acid,hydrogen, chlorine and sodium metal.

It is used in cooking food.

It is required by the human body for the working of nervous system, the movement of muscles and the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach for the digestion

of food.

It is used as a preservative in pickles and in curing meat and fish.

It is used in the manufacture of soap.

It is used to melt ice which collects on roads during winter in cold countries.
