Answer:

The larynx is responsible for creating sound for the voice. The larynx houses the vocal cords that open to allow breathing; close to protect the windpipe when swallowing; and vibrate to give voice. The noise made by the larynx is changed by the tongue, lips and gums to generate speech.

The larynx (/ˈlærɪŋks/), commonly called the voice box, is an organ in the top of the neck involved in breathing, producing sound and protecting the trachea against food aspiration. The larynx houses the vocal folds, and manipulates pitch and volume, which is essential for phonation.
