A respiratory surface is covered with thin, moist epithelial cells that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to exchange. Those gases can only cross cell membranes when they are dissolved in water or an aqueous solution, thus respiratory surfaces must be moist.

The three characteristic of respiratory surfaces in terrestrial organism are as follow:

  • The respiratory organ contains the increased surface area for exchange of gases, allowing the larger bodies.
  • The surface of respiratory organ is enveloped with thin epithelial cell that makes oxygen and carbon dioxide to exchange.
  • The respiratory surfaces are found moist always.

Terrestrial Organism are organisms which are completely found in land areas. Cat, dog, cow are some examples of Terrestrial Organisms.
