heya,

1) Osmosis includes diffusion but not vice-versa - true.
reason : osmosis is the example of  the diffusion.... diffusion is movement of fluid from a religion of a higher to a lower concentration across with a semi permeable membrane, while the osmosis is the diffusion of water across with a semi permeable membrane.....

2) Osmosis is unidirectional. - true.
reason : as we all know, osmosis is the process of transferring the water molecules from a low to a high concentration solution across with a semi permeable membrane... hence, osmosis is an unidirectional...

3) In an experiment on Osmosis, if external pressure is applied on a dilute solution , less water will pass into the concentrated solution. - false.
reason : during the osmosis, the movement of water normally occurs from the dilute solution to concentration solution. (dilute solution is low solute and concentration solution is high solute.) now, if the external pressure applied to the dilute solution so the water molecules will become more and it will move faster rate across the membrane towards the concentration solution.

thank you

Answer:

1. True

2. True

3. False

Explanation:

1. Osmosis includes diffusion but not vice-versa.

The above statement is True.

Reason: Both in osmosis and diffusion, the movement of molecules of a substance from the region of their higher concentration to the region of their lower concentration occurs.

During osmosis, movement of molecules through a semipermeable membrane or a selectively permeable membrane occurs whereas in diffusion there is no requirement of any membrane.

So, osmosis includes diffusion but not vice-versa.

2. Osmosis is unidirectional.

The above statement is True.

Reason: Osmosis is the process in which water or any other solvent moves from a region of low solute concentration to a region of high solute concentration. So, osmosis is a unidirectional phenomenon.

3. In an experiment on Osmosis, if external pressure is applied on a dilute solution , less water will pass into the concentrated solution.

The above statement is False.

Reason: During osmosis, the movement of water normally occurs from dilute solution (low solute concentration) to concentrated solution ( high solute concentration). Now, if external pressure is applied to the dilute solution, more water molecules will move across the membrane towards concentrated solution.
