Municipal council:

1.Municipalities are established for administration of towns and smaller cities.  

2.They are set up in the states by the acts of state legislatures and in the union territory by the acts of the Parliament of India.

Municipal Corporation -

1.Municipal corporations are established for administration of big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad etc.

2.They are established in the states by the acts of State Legislatures, and in the union territories by the acts of the Parliament.

• Municipal corporation translates into mahanagar palika whereas municipal council translates Nagar palika.
• Municipal corporation is to govern cities with population of more than 100,000 people whereas municipal councils are of two towns between 25,000 and 100,000 in population
