The possible causes for the one sided deflection in the galvanometer during potentiometer experiment can be: 1. The potential difference between the ends of the potentiometer wire or the emf of the cell connected in the main circuit may not be greater than the emf of the cells whose emf are to be compared .

Hey !!

The two possible causes for one sided deflection in a potentiometer experiment is :

  • When the driver cell / source cell has an emf less than the emf of the cells to be compared.
  • When the positive end of the potentiometer wire is connected to negative terminal of the cell whose emf is to compared / determined.

GOOD LUCK !!
