Do not touch weights with your bare hands. If you do, oil or salt from sweat will stick to the weights, and resulting rust etc. will cause a change in their mass.

Do not allow weights to slip on the balance pans or to bump against hard objects.

When using weights for high-resolution balance calibration, attention must be paid to the temperature of the balance installation room and weight storage room.

The precautions to be observed are as listed below :

(1) The lever should be turned gently, in order to prevent the knife edges from chipping.

(2) Th beam should be lowered before adding or removing weights from tue pan.

(3) The weights should be carried with forceps. They should not be carried with bare fingers to avoid the change in its weight due to the presence of moisture and dust particles.

(4) Wen near the actual weight, the weights should always be tried in the descending order.

(5) Wet and hot objects should not be kept on the pan.

(6) The weights should be replaced into the weight box after weighing.

Hence, the above are the precautions to be taken while using a beam balance.
