Answer:

Metal carbonates and Metal Hydrogencarbonates reacts with acids and produces corresponding metal salt, carbon dioxide and water. ... Both the reaction produces CO2 which on passing through lime water makes lime water milky due to formation of calcium carbonate. On passing excess carbon dioxide following reaction occurs.

Metal with acid :

Metals react with acid to form metal salt and hydrogen gas.

Examples :

Na ( sodium ) + HCl ( hydrochloric acid ) → NaCl + H_2

Mg + H_2 SO_4MgSO_4 + H_2

Metal Carbonate/ Metal hydrogen carbonate with acid :

Metal carbonate/Metal hydrogen carbonate react with acid to form metal salt and evolve Carbon dioxide and water.

Example :

MgCO_3 + HCl → MgCl_2 + H_2O + CO_2

MgHCO_3 + HCl → MgCl_2 + H_2O + CO_2
