Types of Saptak are Mandra Saptak, Madhya Saptak, and Taar Saptak

  • Saptak poses for “gamut” or ” series of seven notes”. It includes the set of swara which are Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, and Ni which composes a lyrical scale in Indian classical music. It is mostly practised against a hum. Rehearsing Saptak helps in boosting your vocal agility.
  • Hindustani classical music has consisted of three Saptaks which are Mandra Saptak, Madhya Saptak, and Taar Saptak.
  • The middle scale is known as Madhya Saptak which is the most used scale in singing. With consideration to the Madhya saptak, the lower scale is called Mandra or Kharaj Saptak and the higher scale is known as Taar Saptak.
