Observations given are 5 , 8 , 10 , 15 , 22

Mean = ( sum of the observations ) /( number of observations )

= ( 5 + 8 + 10 + 15 + 22 ) / 5

= 60 / 5

Mean = 12

Sum of the deviations

= | 5 - 12 | + | 8 - 12 | + | 10 - 12 | + | 15 - 12 | + | 22 - 12 |

= | - 7 | + | -4 | + | -2 | + | 3 | + | 10 |

= 7 + 4 + 2 + 3 + 10

= 26

Sum of the deviation = 26
