Answer:

Since x = 1 is a solution of the fjrst equation (in fact the only real one) an answer to the second expression will be 2.

Are you sure the second expression is termz in x^37 and not x^39?

If it is x^39 then the trick is to cube the first equation and simplify the cross terms. The answer is 2 without having to solve for x.

If you want to solve for x then set y = x^13 in the equation and multiply through. You get (y-1)^2 = 0 and so y = 1 and x is a thirteenth root of unity whereupon the expression to evaluate becomes x^2 + 1/x^2 giving you a range of results looking like 2 cos 2n pi / 13
