Step-by-step explanation:

let the first term be a and the common difference be d.

A/Q,,

a2=a+(n-1) d

a2=a+(2-1)d

a2=a+d

13=a+d

a+d=13____[Equation no. 1]

a4=a+(n-1) d

a4=a+(4-1)d

a4=a+3d

3=a+3d

a+3d=3____{equation no. 2}

Subtracting the equations 1 and 2,we get

a+d-(a+3d) =13-3

a+d-a-3d=10

-2d=10

d=10/-2

d=-5

putting the value of d in equation no. 1

a+d=13

a+(-5) =13

a-5=13

a=13+5

a=18

now,,

a1=a=18

a3=a+(n-1) d=a+(3-1) d=18+2(-5) =18-10=8

therefore,, x=18

y=8
