${b}^{2} - 4ac$

is less than zero.

For given eqn,

${b}^{2} - 4ac = {( - 8)}^{2} - 4(1)(18) \\ \\ = 64 - 72 \\ \\ = - 8$

which is less than zero.

Therefore this eqn. has no real solution.
