Step-by-step explanation:

given \: {x}^{3} + {x}^{2} - 4x - 4

 = {x}^{2} (x + 1) - 4(x + 1)

 = (x +1)( {x}^{2} - 4)

 = (x + 1)( {x}^{2} - {2}^{2} )

 = (x + 1)(x + 2)(x - 2)

by \: algebraic \: identity

 {a}^{2} - {b}^{2} = (a + b)(a - b)

therefore (x +1),(x+2),and ( x-2) are factors of given polynomials
