The equations :
X + 3y = 7....... (1
2x + y = 3....... (2
To solve this graphically we can form a table with y and x values beginning from 0 for both of them.
For instance when x is 0 in both cases y will be :
In eqn 1 : y = 7/3
In eqn 2: y = 3
Once we form the table of x and y values for both of them then we can plot the graph.
The point at which the two lines cross gives the solution for the two equations.
To verify your answer we can solve the equations simultaneously as below.
To eliminate x we multiply equation one by 2.
We have :
2x + 6y = 14 and 2x + y = 3
We subtract the two :
5y = 11
y = 11/5 = 2.2
Substituting this in 2:
2x + 2.2 = 3
2x = 3 - 2.2
2x = 0.8
x = 0.8/2
x = 0.4
The point at which the two cross will be :
(0.4, 2.2)
This is the solution of the two.
