Solution

Given :-

  • Equation , f(x) = x³ + 3x² + 4x + p
  • Factor of this equation (x+6)

Find :-

  • Value of p

Explanation

We know,

If (x+6) is a factor of this. equation, that means , value of x satisfied this equation .

For this,

  • keep x = -6 in equation

==> f(-6) = (-6)³ + 3 ×(-6)² + 4 × (-6) + p = 0

==> -216 + 3 × 36 - 24 + p = 0

==> -240 + 108 + p = 0

==> p = 240 - 108

==> p = 132

Hence

  • Value of p will be = 132
