x and y start togetrtfrom the starting point and on a 4 km circular track in a race of 16 km the ratio of their epeed is 3:7 . how often do they meet on the track in the race if they both run in the clockwise direction?

Let the speed of ‘x’ be 3s KMPH

Then speed of ‘y’ will be 7s KMPH

Time taken by ‘y’ to complete the race(16Kms) = 16/7s = 2.285714/s

Distance traveled by ‘x’ in same time = 3s*2.285714/s = 6.857143Kms

Case 1: ‘x’ and ‘y’ in Same direction:

Relative distance covered by them = Distance traveled by ‘y’ - Distance traveled by ‘x’ = 16 - 6.857143 = 9.142857Kms

They will meet once in every ‘4kms’ of relative distance = 9.142857/4 = 2.285714

That means, they will meet 2 times

Case 2: ‘x’ and ‘y’ in different direction:

Relative distance covered by them = Distance traveled by ‘y’ + Distance traveled by ‘x’ = 16 + 6.857143 = 22.85714Kms

They will meet once in every ‘4kms’ of relative distance = 22.85714/4 = 5.714286

That means, they will meet 5 times.
