y can finish 12.5% of work in a day ...

so it takes 8 days to y to complete 100% work


so x's one day work = 1/4

y's one day work = 1/8


together they complete the work = 1/4 +1/8

= 12 /32

= 3 / 8

so both can complete the work in 8/3 days
