x sells a bicycle to y at a profit of 25% and y sells it to z at a profit of 20%. If z pays Rs.156,
how much did x pay for it?​

● Explaination -

Let m be the price x paid for the bicycle.

Cost price for x = m

x sold it to y at 25% profit.

Cost price for y = m × (100+25)/100

Cost price for y = m × 125/100

Cost price for y = 5m/4

y sold it to z at profit of 20%.

Cost price for z = 5m/4 × (100+20)/100

Cost price for z = 5m/4 × 120/100

Cost price for z = 3m/2

But we know that z paid 156 ₹ for the bicycle.

156 = 3m/2

m = 156 × 2/3

m = 104 Rs

Therefore, x paid Rs. 104 for the bicycle.
