x + 15y = 39 →1

4x + y = 38 →2

Multiplying eqn (1) with 4, we get,

4[x + 15y = 39]

4x + 60y = 156 →3

Subtracting eqn(2) from eqn(3),

(4x + 60y) - (4x + y) = 156 - 38

59y = 118

y = 2

Now the value of x,

x = 39 - 15y = 39 - 30 = 9
