here is your answer !!

x + y = 3 ....(i)
x + 3y = 26 ....(ii)

Now , from eq. (i) , we get ,
x = 3 - y .... (iii)

So , substituting the value of x in eq. (ii), we get ,
(3 - y) + 3y = 26
=> 3 + 2y = 26
=> 2y = 23
=> y = 11.5 (Ans)

So , x = y - 3 = 11.5 - 3 = 8.5 (Ans)
