Given -

x-y = 3 (I)

xy = 10 (II)

Squaring both sides of (I) equation,

 =  {(x  -  y)}^{2}  =  {3}^{2}

 =  {x}^{2}  - 2xy +  {y}^{2}  = 9

 =  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  - 2xy = 9

Substituting eq (II) in above,

 =  {x}^{2}   +   {y}^{2}  - 2(10) = 9

 =  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  - 20 = 9

 =  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  = 29

Henceforth, the value of the required expression is 29.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

[x-y]²=x²-2xy+y²

3²     =x²-2*10+y²

9       =x²-20+y²

x²+y²=20+9

        =29
