x = 2 and y = 3

SOLUTION:-

x + y = 5 .......i)

but ,

x = y -1

put value of x = y - 1 in equation i)

x + y = 5

y - 1 + y = 5

2y -1 = 5

2y = 5 + 1

2y = 6

y =6/2

y =3

Y = 3

therefore,

x = y - 1

= 3 - 1

X = 2

X = 2
