56-2y=28

Now, back to your question,

x/y=42/14=3

by equation (2).

we get

. x= 28+y. ...(3)

put value in (1).

==>28+y +y= 56

==>. 2y=28

==>. y= 14.

put value of y in (3).

==>x= 14+28

==>x=42.

Thus:-

value of x=42

value of y=14.

now calculat;-

==>x÷y=42÷14

==>x÷y=3.
