x + y = 6 ..............(i)
xy = 9 ⇒ y = 9/x ..............(ii)
_______________________________________________________
Substituting (ii) on (i)
x + 9/x = 6
x² + 9 = 6x
⇒ x² - 6x + 9
⇒ x² - 3x - 3x + 9
⇒ x(x-3) -3(x-3)
⇒ (x-3)(x-3)
Then x = 3,3
_______________________________________________________
Hence x = 3 and y = 3
