√x +√y = 7
√x-√y=1

Answer:

let √x = a and √y = b

a + b = 7...........(1)

a - b = 1 .........…(2)

from equation (1) we get ,

a = 7 - b ..............(3)

substituting the value of a in equation (2)

we get,

7 - b - b = 1

7 - 2b = 1

7 - 1 = 2b

2b = 6

b = 6/2

b = 3

substituting the value of b in equation (3)

we get ,

a = 7 - 3

a = 4

=> √x = a = 4

=> √x = 4

=> x = 16

=> √y = b

=> √y = 3

=> y = 9

Hence x= 16 and y= 9
