Step-by-step explanation:

Given -

  • x + y = -1
  • 2x - 3y = -5

To Find -

  • Value of x and y by substitution method

Now,

→ x + y = -1

→ y = -1 - x

  • Now, Substituting the value of y on 2x - 3y = - 5

→ 2x - 3(-1 - x) = -5

→ 2x + 3 + 3x = -5

→ 5x = -8

→ x = -8/5

  • Now, Substituting the value of x on y = -1 - x

→ y = -1 - (-8/5)

→ y = -1 + 8/5

→ y = -5 + 8/5

→ y = 3/5

Hence,

The value of x is -8/5 and y is 3/5.

Given :

x + y = -1 --- eq (i)

2x - 3y = -5 ---- eq (ii)

To find :

The value of x and y by substituition method

Solution :

The eq (ii) can be written as ,

2x = (-5 + 3y)

x = (-5 + 3y)/2

Put the value of x = (-5 + 3y)/2 in eq (i) , we get

 \sf \hookrightarrow \frac{ - 5 + 3y}{2}  + y =  - 1 \\  \\ \sf \hookrightarrow  - 5 + 3y + 2y =  - 2 \\  \\ \sf \hookrightarrow  - 5 + 5y =  - 2 \\  \\ \sf \hookrightarrow5y = 3 \\  \\ \sf \hookrightarrow y =  \frac{3}{5}

Now, put the value of y = 3/5 in eq (i) , we get

 \sf \hookrightarrow x +  \frac{3}{5}  =  - 1 \\  \\  \sf \hookrightarrow x =  - 1 -  \frac{3}{5}  \\  \\ \sf \hookrightarrow x =  -  \frac{8}{5}

 \therefore \sf \underline{The \:  value \:  of \:  x \:  and \:  y  \: are  -  \frac{8}{5}  \: and \:  \frac{3}{5} }
