x/y+y/x=10/4 then the value of x:y

 \frac{x}{y}  +  \frac{y}{x}  =  \frac{10}{4}

LET x/y be a

then

a +  \frac{1}{a}  =  \frac{10}{4}

 \frac{ {a}^{2}  + 1}{a}  =  \frac{5}{2}

2 {a}^{2}  + 2 = 5a

2 {a}^{2}  - 5a + 2 = 0 \\ 2 {a}^{2}  - 4a - a + 2 = 0 \\ 2a(a - 2) - 1(a - 2) = 0 \\ (a - 2)(2a - 1) = 0

THEN

a = 2 \:  \: or \:  \: a =  \frac{1}{2}

THEN THE VALUE OF x:y ARE 2 AND 1/2
