x² + 10x + 20 = 0

Subtract 20 from both sides of the equation.

x² + 10x = −20

Add the (b/2)² = (5)² to each side of the equation.

x² + 10 + (5)² = −20 + (5)²

Simplify the equation

x² + 10x + 25 = 5

(x + 5)² = 5

x + 5 = ±√5

x = ±√5-5
