Given :–

  • An equation, x² + 2x – 3.

Required :–

  • Factorise the given equation.

Solution :–

The given equation,

⟹ x² + 2x – 3

By splitting the middle term, we obtain

So, here the middle term is 2x.

After splitting the middle term 2x we get, + 3x x,

Now, put the splitted middle term in the given equation, x² + 2x – 3

So,

⟹ x² + 3x – x – 3

Now, keep them in the 2 brackets,

⟹ x(x + 3) – 1(x + 3)

So, After factorise this equation, we obtain

⟹ (x + 3)(x – 1)

Hence,

The factorisation of the given equation, x² + 2x – 3 is (x + 3)(x 1).
