It is given that x²+ 2x - 5 = 0

x² + 2x = 5

x² + 2 × x × 1 + 1² = 5 + 1²

( x + 1 )² = 6

( x + 1 ) = ± √6

x = ±√6 - 1

x = √6 - 1 or x = -√6 - 1
