GIVEN:-

let ,
A = x² - 2xy + 3y²,
B = 5y² + 3xy - 6x²

Adding horizontally,

A + B = (x² - 2xy + 3y² ) + (5y² + 3xy - 6x²)

A + B = (-5x² + xy + 8y²)

Adding vertically,

x² - 2xy + 3y²
-6x + 3xy + 5y²
------------------------
5x² + xy + 8y²

Hence, answer is same with both methods.

Hi ,

Let A = x² - 2xy + 3y² ,

B = - 6x² + 3xy + 5y² ,

Horizontal Method :

A + B

= ( x² - 2xy + 3y² ) + ( -6x² + 3xy + 5y² )

= x² - 2xy + 3y² - 6x² + 3xy + 5y²

= x² - 6x² - 2xy + 3xy + 3y² + 5y²

= - 5x² + xy + 8y² -------( 1 )

Vertical Method :

A + B

= x² - 2xy + 3y²

- 6x² + 3xy + 5y²
_____________
- 5x² + xy + 8y² -------- ( 2 )
____________

From ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) , we conclude

that , using both methods we get

the same answer.

I hope this helps you.
