Given x^2 - y^2 + 6y - 9 can be written as

      =  x^2 - (y^2 - 6y + 9)

      = x^2 - (y - 3)(y - 3)

     = x^2 - (y - 3)^2

 We know that a^2 - b^2 = (a+b)(a-b)

    = (x + (y - 3)) (x - (y - 3))

    = (x + y - 3)(x - y + 3).

Hope this helps!
