x^4 – (x – y)^4

= (x^2)^2 – [(x – y)^2]^2

= [x^2 – (x – y)^2] [x^2 + (x – y)^2]

= [x + (x – y] [x – (x – y)] [x^2 + x^2 – 2xy + y^2]

= (x + x – y) (x – x + y)[2x^2 – 2xy + y^2]

= (2x – y) y(2x^2 – 2xy + y^2)

= y(2x – y) (2x^2 – 2xy + y^2)
