Given:

X and Y together can construct a small quarantine center in 12 days,

X alone can  construct in 30 days

To find:

In how long Y alone can construct it?

Solution:

In 1 day, the part of quarantine centre X and Y will construct → \frac{1}{X} + \frac{1}{Y} = \frac{1}{12}

In 1 day, the part of quarantine centre X alone will construct → \frac{1}{X} = \frac{1}{30}

Let's assume that Y can alone construct the quarantine centre in "Y" days.

Therefore,

In 1 day, the part of quarantine centre X alone will construct,

= [\frac{1}{X} + \frac{1}{Y}] - [\frac{1}{X} ]

= \frac{1}{12} - \frac{1}{30}

taking L.C.M of 12 & 30 = 60

= \frac{5 - 2}{60}

= \frac{3}{60}

= \bold{\frac{1}{20}}

Thus, Y alone can construct the small quarantine centre in 20 days.
