(Y-10) &(y+40) are the complementary angles
So their sum is 90
(y-10) +(y+40)=90
2y+30=90
2Y=90-30=60
y=60/2=30
Required angles=(30-10) , (30+40)
=20,70

SOLUTION

GIVEN

(y-10°) and (y+40°) are the measures of complementary angle

TO DETERMINE

The measure of each angle

EVALUATION

Here it is given that (y-10°) and (y+40°) are the measures of complementary angle

We know that two angles are said to be complementary if sum of angles = 90°

Thus we get

y - 10° + y + 40° = 90°

⇒ 2y + 30° = 90°

⇒ 2y = 60°

⇒ y = 30°

First angle = 30° - 10° = 20°

Second angle = 30° + 40° = 70°

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the required angles are 20° and 70°
