Most rivers are offered better terrain to flow into the Bay of Bengal, than the vast Arabian sea.
The continuous stretch of the Western ghats prevents the free flow of rivers into the Arabian sea, whereas the eastern ghats do not have a continuous topography; thus, providing better relief features for rivers to flow.
Hence there are more rivers flowing eastwards in Peninsular India.
